"Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself." - John Dewey "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." - Aristotle "The highest education is that which doesn't merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence." - Rabindranath Tagore "It is the lot of man to share in the deeper aspirations of the universe around him and to share his own destiny as well as that of the universe, now by adjusting himself to its forces, now by putting the whole of his energy to his own ends and purposes." - Sir Muhammad Iqbal (RA) Image NEW JKPSC Assistant Professor Previous Year Papers PDF | NEW Syllabus for the post of Assistant Professor Renewable Energy in Higher Education Department published by JKPSC | NEW Syllabus for Post of Assistant professor in Environmental science JKPSC - 2023 in Higher Education Department | NEW Top 10 questions of Environmental Science in 2023-2024

Scope of Environmental Sciences

Environmental sciences is multi disciplinary in nature. It gives knowledge of:

1.Environmental Engineering Branch of science involved in control of environmental pollution is known as environmental engineering e. g NEERI : National Environmental Engineering Research Institute in Nagpur.

2. Environmental Management (Natural Resource Management)
Efficient use of natural resources (Air, water, land, forest etc) to ensure their sustainable utilization for present and future generation, is known as environmental management.

3. Biodiversity Variety of living organisms and their habitats are known as biodiversity. Saving wild animals and plants from getting extinct, it is an important part of environmental sciences.

4.Waste Management Refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, recovery, treatment and disposal are the important steps of waste management.

5.Ecology Study of ecosystem is known as ecology. The ecological interactions are governed by variety of phenomenal and studying them would involve various branches of science.

6.Global Environmental problems The long range transport of air pollutants is responsible for many environmental problems of global concern e. g acid rain, ozone layer depletion, global warming and global climate change.

7.Environmental laws Laws are made to control environmental pollution e.g Air (prevention and control of pollution) Act 1981, Water ( prevention and control of pollution) Act 1974, Environmental protection Act 1986 etc.

8. Social Environmental issues The issue of major concern are associated with our society e.g women education, child welfare, poverty, population, pollution (3Ps), literacy.

9. Environmental sciences help students to grow future green engineers I,e population increases exponentially, putting pressure on natural resources causing natural resources crisis known as Natural resource crunch ( in the market). Learning environmental sciences will help students, understand the concepts and their applications. Thus, they will be the priority professionals, preferred by the market who could utilize natural resources efficiently known as priority engineers or green engineers or priority professionals.

The first and foremost thing is to understand the importance of environmental sciences in building the future economy for the coming generations. Economy of no nation can survive without being a developing' green economy'.
Environmental sciences help students develop an attitude towards appreciation of concepts of environmental services, which will automatically update into an active involvement as well providing students the basic updates of science and technology in environmental sciences I, e the basic analytical tools.

The importance of environmental sciences should even be recognized even at higher degree programs. The important topics of utility of the subject are monitoring of air pollutants, control devices of air pollutants, pH measurements, BOD, COD analysis, and turbidity measurement. This is how environmental sciences can be taught in a systematic time dependent frame of curriculum well designed separately for each of the selected group of graduates (Science, commerce, arts, engineering and pharmacists).
